Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Engineer

Department:  Technical
Reports to: Facility Manager
Directly supervises : Maintenance technicians
Location:  Onsite at HPW Fresh and Dry Ghana, Adeiso, E/R, Ghana

Job Purpose

Ensure seamless availability of cooling and heating installations for the food processing facility. reports and recommends replacements. To make inputs into the planning of new air conditioning or cooling projects.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Put in place an effective maintenance system to ensure proper functioning of cooling equipment and boilers in our food processing factory.
  • Manage effective operation of heating and cooling installation.
  • Recommend, plan, and implement repair works and optimisations on the in-stallations.
  • Manage spare part stock.
  • Support planning of new installations.

  • Occiasional and supervisory duties:

  • Recruitment and retention of mechanical foremen and artisans
  • Comply with all legal requirement for facility and equipment
  • Coordinate activities of the facilities and maintenance teams for performance and development
  • Keep maintenance records are in hard and /or soft copies in accordance with BRC requirements.
  • Adhere to factory policies in place e.g., EHS, food safety, health, and safety as well as emergency response.
  • Analyse machinery downtime causes and implement corrective actions
  • Adhere to Safety procedures in the course of work and implement safety measures in work units.
  • Handle performance management of maintenance and facilities teams
  • Supervise team members to ensure time, targets, quality, and other set stand-ards are achieved.
  • Interpret policies and procedures to immediate team members and where nec-essary consults with superior or appropriate departments.
  • Appraise the performance of immediate team members
  • Identify learning needs of immediate team members and organize or
  • Recommend appropriate training for them.
  • Administer disciplinary measures of immediate team members in accordance with the company’s disciplinary procedures.
  • Departamental relations  : Relations with all departement

    External relations:  Maintains contact with 3rd party contractors related to maintenance

    Physical Requirements:

  • The Job may require entering to hot and cold areas within the facilities
  • The level of noise is generally high in some areas within the facility
  • The job demands walking, standing, bending, climbing and the use of scaffolds
  • The job entails long working hours when there is an emergency
  • Ability to work under extreme pressure
  • Equipment/Tools to be used:  Computer, toolboxes, spare parts

    Qualification and experience:

  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or higher
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a plant or maintenance engineer in FMCG environment or a continuous operation, managing a maintenance and facility management
  • Professional qualification is a plus.
  • Apprenticeship in boiler operations
  • Apprenticeship in welding and fabrications
  • Technical and Personality Competencies:

  • Must be computer literate in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Good interpersonal relations
  • Good team player
  • Knowledge in technical skills
  • Apprenticeship in boiler operations
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Apprenticeship in welding and fabrications
  • Good knowledge in Health and Safety Procedures
  • Knowledge in asset management is essential
  • Good understanding of the food manufacturing process and quality management
  • Ability to work with Computerized Maintenance Management system
  • Knowledge of using tools such as RCM and other analytic tools
